My dear friend Julie once joked: "Parents go crazy insisting on everything organic for their babies... and completely throwing out all healthy eating restrictions of their kids' when they get older. So, we can conclude that babies are more important and children lose this level of priority more and more as they age." Well, of course they don't, but somehow their nutrition does tend to lose its urgency in the light of all other battles we face as parents.

Funny thing is, I notice exactly the same pattern with kids birthdays! Their first birthdays are lavished with attention, parties, pictures... yep, when the kid is still at the stage where he can barely discern himself from others, his birthday is overcrowded with "friends" and a large crew of admirers eager to share an overwhelming blast of fun activities. Toddler years are filled with expensive parties that subside as kids get older.. and eventually come down to an amazon card, ice cream and (in the best case scenario) - a sleepover. Right?

Well, once our children get older and have their say on the festivities, extra attention to those events steadily declines.

Honestly, I have no problem with it.

I only wish capturing them as they grow, didn't become any less important. Because it isn't. 6th, 11th and even the dreaded 13th and 14th birthdays - are no less important as the first ones! Pull out your iphones, look at the last year's pictures: yes, those girls looked so BIG (and may be even a little bratty) to you then, but look so adorably naive, sweet and little now!!!

Capture and print those moments. Let's not bury them in the endless tartar pits of the digital memory archives. Your children still deserve to know they they are no less important than when they were babies. And those images will matter to you even more with every upcoming year...

Happy birthday, sweet jumpy adorableness!!! You are SO BIG! And so small at the same time...
Loved spending time with you so much!!! Love your energy, s
